The Weekend Club Program offers two core classes on Saturdays, from 9 AM-12 PM.
ELA & MATH Enrichment or Reinforcement Class (EMC)
Grades: Kindergarten to 2nd grade, as well as English Language Learner (ELL) students in grades 1-6
The class objective is to equip every student with the necessary tools to improve their academic abilities, particularly in reading, writing, and math, per the NYS standard. We prioritize reinforcing fundamental reading skills through the science of reading approach, focusing on phonemic awareness - the ability to identify, manipulate, and comprehend individual sounds. Our resources are customized to meet the specific needs of each student, aligning with NYS Learning Standards. Furthermore, our program emphasizes instilling positive ethical values and character development to boost students' internal confidence and motivation.
Large numbers of elementary school students fail to achieve grade-level proficiency in reading and mathematics. In the 2023-24 academic year, NYC launched NYC Reads, a comprehensive reading program integrated into the elementary school curriculum to foster proficient reading skills among all students in New York City. The program offers high-caliber reading education for pre-K and elementary school students, emphasizing critical areas like phonics and lexical understanding. NYC Reads is underpinned by the science of reading methodology.
2. Statewide Test-Prep Class (NYSTP)
Grades 3-8 (ELA & MATH ONLY)
The class aims to help students succeed by providing expert guidance, helpful test-taking tips, and the support they need to achieve high grades and test scores. We carefully choose study materials that follow the New York State Standard (Performance Coach Overview). For each class or session, we choose relevant topics and lessons that match the state assessment requirements outlined in the educator's test guide manuals provided by the Department of Education. Most lessons will be taught in the fall term, and practice tests will start in the spring term.
The compulsory annual statewide assessment is mandatory for public school students in grades 3 through 8. Thorough documentation is crucial for qualification for advanced programs at esteemed educational institutions. Performance in these assessments significantly impacts middle school outcomes and lays the foundation for high school and college readiness, ultimately preparing students for the challenges of higher education and beyond. Developing proficient skills and becoming acquainted with test questions enhances students' confidence when sitting for the actual exam. Over time, numerous fifth graders from our program have gained admission to prestigious middle school programs in Brooklyn and New York City.
3. Reading Support Class (RSC)
Ages 5-10 & ELLs
Led by a New York State-certified teacher and focuses on teaching foundational reading skills, with a strong emphasis on phonics.
